GSI Commerce plans to close one of its four call centers
E-commerce technology provider GSI Commerce Inc. has announced plans to close a call center in Martinsville, VA, moving from four to three call centers to improve operational efficiency. The move is not related to any decrease in expected call volume, the e-commerce technology provider says.
GSI has notified the 279 employees at the Virginia facility of its plans to phase out the operation between June and September. GSI acquired the Martinsville call center as part of its 2007 acquisition of Accretive Commerce. The lease on the facility is up at the end of the summer, GSI says.
The company plans to add personnel at its three other call centers, in Melbourne, FL, Eau Claire, WI, and Brunswick, GA, and will expand a program it introduced two years ago of employing customer service agents who work from home.
GSI also operates a 479,000-square-foot fulfillment center in Martinsville, VA, which is not affected by the closure of the call center.
